Webcam-Whiteboard using IR-pen with LCD-TV as display
Here is the second video to demonstrate my application. Here I used my LCD-TV as display, which works fine, because the surface of the tv consists of glass or PLEXI-glass, so it reflects the light of my IR-pen. You have just to calibrate your webcam and your whiteboard is ready for use. The tracking quality of the webcam depends on the quality of the webcam. Mine 10 euro webcam is ok for surfing in the internet and using your desktop, but I thing it is not good enough to draw in paint. Visit: eduard.metzger.googlepages.com to download the program I made and used in this video.

@Jeenike
Thats great!
Hm SetVideoCaptureFiles.exe seems to make often problems…
i’ve downloaded the newest one, uninstalled JMF.
With the v. 1.4 the SetVideoCaptureFiles.exe kept freezing out when I started the software, so I removed it from the folder and started the Webcam-Whiteboard-1.4.exe and it works now. Thank you.
@Jeenike
Hi, which version are you using? In the newest one (1.4), you dont need JMF. Just Java 6 update 13.
Please check if there are no other disturbing light sources, by checking the images of the webcam in the “Extras” menu.
The camera sees the IR pen’s light.
I have not got a clue what may be wrong.. do you have any idea?
I have tried this method with a Genius Eye 110 Webcam(IR filter removed and with IR pass only filter put), with Windows XP, with Windows server 2008 (on different laptops), I have java and java media framework installed both.
When I start your software and the callibration, the callibration points won’t show up. Or if they show up accidentaly they disappear very fast as if I clicked on them (but I didn’t), and some times even the mouse goes crazy…
See one of the newer videos. There its faster.
First its the version of WW (1.4 and 1.3 should be the fastest) counts.
Second the performance of your computer.
Third the FPS of your webcam (30 is enough).
And fourth the exposure settings. The lower the exposure, the higher the speed.
hey how do u make ur webcam run that fast plz tel me configs
I will upload it again. You can find the link on my project page in the webcam-whiteboard part.
can you send me the old software (0.2) somehow
Check if you have all the Requirements, especially JMF (Java Media Framework).
when i run the software it just says something about capture device and it just stays there and does nothing… Whats the problem?????
I think it wont work. It didnt worked, when I tested it. You need a surface, which reflects light very well. Like glass. So the surface has to be very clearly. Just check if your plasma screen reflects light as well as a laptop-screen for example.
Does it work on a plasma tv????? plz rply
Did you install JMF – Java Media Framework? This problem normally occurs when you didnt install JMF. You can find the link on my project-page. I just tested it with my USB-Webcam, but I think it should work with every webcam, which works on your pc or laptop.
I have your software but it can`t recognise my camera. When I run it it stands on “Connecting for capture device”. I checked my cam and it works perfect. I have a Privileg camera. Can someone help me.
check the cam-monitor and/or the irdot-monitor and you can see if its too sensitive and if you have too less filters. I think you can change the sensivity in the irdot-window.
om thanks. I’ve tried that. and it does work. But the problem now is the webcam is too sensitive. i did not touch the screen yet but it already moved when calibrated. Why is it too sensitive? is it because my IR LED is omnidirectional?
Do you use some filters like photo-negatives? When you already do it, just try some more. I used several ones. Another method is to lower the brightness in your webcam-settings.
Check if too much day-light shines on your webcam. Try it, when its dark outside and switch off bright lights in your room.
why can i still see my laptop screen? Not a total darkness.
A new version is avaliable now on my project page. Webcam-Whiteboard v0.2 with better IRdot-tracking.
