I’m not exactly sure what the problem is with my laptop but lines show up on the screen and its black and white. A new lcd screen is $400. If the screen is the problem can I just use a regular monitor to takes its place. I’m trying to set it up.

As long as your laptop has a VGA port on it, then yes. If this second monitor doesn’t work, then you probably have a video card or motherboard issue.
Yeah if you have a VGA port or Dvi port (which you should).. Try it out..
ull need ur laptop working to set it..unless it has hdmi out
Yes, you can use an external monitor. That will only prevent you from being portable.
However, it sounds like you need a new LCD cable. It’s a cable that connects the motherboard to the LCD. It’s easy to fix and costs $5. It may not even need to be replaced, but just tightened. Alternatively, a new LCD could be had for $100 on Ebay and requires some technical ability to replace.
Yes,
The best way to connect it is when the computer is OFF. If it doesn’t work when you turn on the computer than there are blue (might be another color) buttons and function keys on the laptop. One switches between LCD and CRT screen. You might have to check your owners manual.
